2023 wall archive
i've always been archival in nature, like collecting pretty pieces of trash (bottle caps, wrappers, packaging) outside as a kid & keeping it in this massive ass empty cheeto ball jar. as i’ve grown, i haven’t changed much. i still keep pretty packaging to put on my walls as decor, & i collect photos like i breathe air. packaging, mirrors, posters, & photos—if its pretty, i put it on my wall. recently, however, after life brought me more change than i knew what to do with, i decided it was time for a bit of controlled change. but also i didn’t want to forget a single aspect of the collage I had been building for years. which is why this piece was a no-brainer for me to create.
i collected close-up photos of every part of my wall that had any art on it & arranged them in Adobe Illustrator to become one panoramic piece, then took that image & laid it against a photo i took of leaves against the sky taken around the time I started to put up wall art. then i moved on to the 3D version, separating the panoramic shot into the four walls of my room. using blender, i created a virtual room with other images of mine acting as the different walls & a video showing the 360-degree view of the room. this piece acts as an archive of the walls that saw me grow &, hopefully, is the first of many wall archives.
